1. What were your motives for helping this person?

To encourage them on their educational journey with the end being a new job/career.

2. Did you benefit from this relationship in any way? How?

Yes. As I am new at this I learned a lot about myself.

3. What was your role in the helping relationship? In what way do you think you helped this person? Looking back, is there anything that you might have done differently?

I was advising and listening to concerns. I think I helped them by encouraging them to believe in herself.

4. Was there anything that this person did, said, or believed that you did not agree with? How did you react?

Yes. I was unsure what to say next. I think I will continue to improve the more I do this.

5. Did you learn anything from this relationship?

That I can only guide them, they have be honest with themselves to make this work.

Hi Krystle,

I am so glad that this experience helped you to learn a lot about yourself. What did you actually learn about yourself? Are you more patient? Do you have the ability to help students to feel comfortable? Open up?

I would have loved to learn more about the back story to this. For example, what did you mean by, "they have to be honest with themselves to make this work?" I can appreciate your direct and open approach here but was curious to learn more about your step-by-step process here so that I can understand how you would respond to scenarios for the CCSP. One of my favorite points in here was that you were using your listening skills and encouraging your students on their career journeys. That alone shows your empathy and ability to make connections. Keep up the good work and sharing in your responses!
