1. What were your motives for helping this person?

I am motivated by giving chances.  If you are never given a chance/ opportunity to advance or succeed, then skills can't be gained.  I was given an opportunity to show my skills in the past and that is what motivates me to help others. I had a gentleman who was a CDL truckdriver that was looking for additional opportunities since he did not have 3 or more years into driving since certification.  I offered him the opportunity for the position because someone has to give him the opportunity to get that experience.

2. Did you benefit from this relationship in any way? How?

I was satisfied with helping the customer establish a new opportunity. He was a success story for me.

3. What was your role in the helping relationship? In what way do you think you helped this person? Looking back, is there anything that you might have done differently?

I recruited him for the trucking position.    I feel I gave him the opportunity to advance his new training and career.  I wouldn't have done anything differently.

4. Was there anything that this person did, said, or believed that you did not agree with? How did you react?

No, there wasn't anything that they said or did that I did not agree with.  I provided him with the opportunity

5. Did you learn anything from this relationship?

 That I liked helping people.

I am always inspired by how you help.our customers. It is always bright and willing.

I have learned fro. Your post that it comes fro. You in a genuine nature, not just because you have to help.

If you could have it your way, what percentage of customers would you like to see succeed doing EXACTLY what their heart desires.

Thanks for sharing!

I really agree with your motives, giving chances. This is a great motive that I do think about subconsciously. I always want to see my customers succeed and think about if I were in their shoes and how I would want my Career Coach to assist me. Giving second chances is important, especially on our side of town where people are living in an impact area where they still want to better their lives. Giving chances is important because we are here to serve our community, and want to provide the best guidance as possible.

Hi TaNesha,

Thank you for your post. This post gives us a lot of insight. It helps us to appreciate that you are a true helper in the sense that you are willing to support individuals and offer them the chance that they need to succeed. Congratulations on a job well done!

Your workmates seem to know more about the story than was shared here. I would have loved to learned more about what made this a success story specifically. It sounds like the gentleman that you were assisting had limited experience in the field but what else made this especially a success for you and for him? Did he stand out in some way and/or overcome his inexperience with professionalism? Why are "chances" important in career development? Just a few things to think about in preparation for similar scenario questions that you will be asked on the certified career services provider assessment. The more we expound on the story the better for the assessment.

Well done and thank you so much for using your skills daily to support individuals on their career journeys!

Best,

Charise

Chances/ opportunities are important because without them people who look like us really dont prosper. I get a few more opportunities maybe bacause i dont sound like my image depicts but rest assured as soo. As an employer meets me or realizes the voice with the person more is expected of me than if my image matched my voice. So i personally understand the opportunities are driven by the hiring managers assumption.
