1. What were your motives for helping this person?

I'm a helper, I try to help everyone who crosses my path, in anyway I can!

2. Did you benefit from this relationship in any way? How?

I think helping others may not outright help us, financially, etc. However, I think I always learn something new from helping people and how to personally be better.

3. What was your role in the helping relationship? In what way do you think you helped this person? Looking back, is there anything that you might have done differently?

I was helping a colleague with their CV edits, my expertise helped this person a lot and allowed them to apply for a job that they were qualified for. I think many of us that just want to "help" people need to learn that charging people for our expertise isn't a bad thing, we're experts and deserve to be treated as such. So that's something I would do differently- I would charge folks for extensive help, beyond just a quick look!

4. Was there anything that this person did, said, or believed that you did not agree with? How did you react?

The person took my feedback well and implemented it. So that wasn't an issue in this specific situation.

5. Did you learn anything from this relationship?

I think I always learn new things from my helping relationships, whether it's clients or otherwise.

Hi Jenna,
Well said...I would agree that charging is something we should do, because it's a skill and expertise that these individuals will benefit from in the end, so it's well worth it and a great ROI if they implement the suggestions!

Jenna,

Sorry for the late reply. I'm catching up! And yes, those of us who love to help have a hard time asking for payment, don't we???

Hi Jenna,

You're right, nothing wrong with charging for extensive help. I recently had a friend reach out for similar assistance. She knows this is my business, so I charged. Plus, we tend to do even more for a friend than someone we don't know!

Whew, right! Good job!
