Hello Joe,
I would have to agree with the advice you gave your former colleague and friend. As we can see, our "clients" may not always take our advice and may choose a varied path but it's great that he felt comfortable to bounce the ideas off of you. I personally find that when I'm coaching a client that it sharpens my own skills as well. I do quite a bit of research on their behalf behind the scenes and try to off them tips that they would not have thought of themselves. There are some great tools outlined in our book and I would love to discuss more during our 1:1 sessions!
By the way, on the topic of whether to discuss extra-professional activities, I would make note of the culture that he is entering and use that as the basis for the argument either way.
Thank you,
Charise
